courses of Turnberry and Troon are nearby and there are ten other
courses within 25 miles where it is inexpensive to play and learn.
TENNIS
There is a public tennis court in Ballantrae. It has recently
been re-surfaced and it is free to play.
SEASIDE
Ballantrae has a long sand and shingle beach which is fun for
children and dogs.
GARDENS
The Gulf Stream and the superb scenery make this an excellent
area for gardens, particularly in late Spring when the Rhododendrons and
Azaleas are in flower. Castle Kennedy, Logan, Bargany and many more
gardens are within easy reach.
DAY TRIPS
Trips to Arran, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Northern Ireland are all
possible. Closer to home there are lots of pretty villages and coves to
explore as well as Glen Trool and the Galloway Forest Park.
FISHING
There is fly fishing on the River Stinchar, one of the most
productive of the west coast salmon rivers. Sea fishing trips from
Girvan or Ballantrae & Loch Fishing available nearby.
HISTORY
There are many castles and historic places of interest to
explore. Culzean Castle is only fifteen miles away.
BIRD WATCHING
The hills, river banks and river estuary provide exceptional
opportunities to go bird watching.
BOATING TRIPS
Trips to Ailsa Craig can be arranged from Girvan.
WALKING
A great area for hill walking - along the old drovers road which
links up with the Southern Upland Way or in the Galloway Hills. For
those who like a gentle stroll, the little harbour and sea shore and the
path along the river bank are good. |
